Guidelines

Kvile is a self-service, wood-fired sauna.
You receive a personal access code when booking.
We operate on trust, and we appreciate that all guests follow the guidelines.

Use of the sauna and sea bathing is at your own risk – follow all fire and safety instructions.

General rules:

  • The person who made the booking is responsible for ensuring the rules and fire instructions are followed.
  • There must always be an adult present during the booking.
  • Sit on a towel – for your own hygiene and that of others.
  • No food is allowed inside the sauna.
  • Do not use the sauna if you are sick or have a fever.
  • If you're unsure how to use the stove, do not use the sauna alone.
  • Take breaks and drink plenty of water during and after the session.
  • Be aware that children and elderly may be more sensitive to heat.
  • Monitor the temperature during your stay.
  • Use the timer on the wall and take breaks at least every 15 minutes.
  • Maximum 2 alcoholic units per session (only during private bookings).
  • We encourage all guests to stay sober – alcohol can impair judgment and increase risk.
  • Never hang towels or textiles on or near the stove rail.
  • Only pour fresh water on the stones – saltwater or other liquids may damage the stove.
  • Thank you for leaving the sauna as tidy as you found it!

Fire & Safety Instructions:

  • Always appoint one person as responsible for the stove during the session.
  • The fire responsible must ensure safe and proper lighting of the stove throughout the stay.
  • Familiarize yourself with safety procedures and act with caution.
  • The fire responsible person should remain sober throughout the visit. And must be 18 years or older.
  • No minors under 18 are allowed in the sauna without adult supervision.

Lighting the Stove (if cold):

  • Use kindling to light the stove. Stack wood to allow good airflow underneath.
  • We recommend starting with 2 smaller logs and some kindling.
  • Firelighters and matches are available in the sauna.
  • Once the fire catches properly, you can add more logs.
  • After 15–20 minutes, the sauna should be heating well.
  • Pour water on the sauna stones to increase steam and heat.
  • Add firewood as needed.

Fire Safety & Emergency Procedures:

  • A fire blanket is located inside the sauna – make sure to read the instructions before lighting the fire.
  • A certified fire extinguisher is available in the changing room – locate it and learn how to use it before starting.
  • In case of fire – try to put out the fire if possible - CALL 113 - Evacuate the sauna.
  • When out take a headcount and ensure everyone is safe. Keep a safe distance from the sauna.
